This webpage lists all of the EHS training by program area.  They can be searched using a specific term or filtered by program.  Click on the course name to open the description.  The narratives explain who needs to take the training, if it is required or recommended, If it is a one-time training or needs to be taken more than once, the format of the training, and provides a link to the training and program webpage.

Fire Prevention and Protection

Fire Safety - Dining Hall Employees

This course is recommended for Housing and Foods Services dining operations employees. This instructor-led training includes fire prevention practices, identification of common fire hazards, evacuation procedures, and review of dining hall fire protection systems. This course is scheduled by H&FS.

Building Emergency Coordinator Training

This training is a one-time required training for employees who served as Building Emergency Coordinators within their respective Building Emergency Evacuation Plan (BEEP).  The training consists of PowerPoint slides which cover general evacuation procedures, evacuation maps, and the responsibilities of the Building Emergency Coordinator.  This information is to be supplemented by specific BEEP plan information provided by the employee’s unit.

Building Occupant Training

This training is recommended for all building occupants.  The training consists of PowerPoint slides which cover general evacuation procedures, evacuation maps, and expectations for building occupants. This information is to be supplemented by specific Building Emergency Evacuation Program (BEEP) plan information provided by the employee’s unit.

Conducting Building Emergency Evacuation Program

This is a one-time required training for those individuals who want to lead BEEP exercises for their assigned buildings independently of EHS.  The training consists of an instructor-led session which covers how to schedule exercises, equipment needs, communication, coordination, and completion of documentation.

TRAINING IS AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST. THERE ARE NO REGULARLY SCHEDULED CLASSES FOR THIS TRAINING COURSE.

 

LRN Course Registration    Building Emergency Evacuation Program

Fire Safety - General Work Areas

This training course is recommended for employees interested in obtaining information on fire prevention and safety practices applicable to their work areas.  The instructor-led training is designed to address specific and general fire safety issues related to a variety of employee work areas including offices, shops, and research/lab areas. Hands-on fire extinguisher training can also be included. 

Please note that this course is not appropriate for Resident Assistants, Dining Hall Employees, or Theatre Productions.  Alternate fire safety training courses are available which feature content specifically developed for these audiences.

Fire Safety - Resident Assistant

This course is required for all new Resident Assistants (RAs) and Housing Coordinators and is scheduled annually by Residence Life. This instructor-led training involves a review of residence hall / apartment. fire safety policies, fire prevention, building evacuation procedures and residence hall fire protection systems.

Fire Safety - Theatre Productions

This course is recommended for employees / students involved with the production of theatre shows. This instructor-led training includes fire prevention practices, identification of common fire hazards found in theatres and crowd management and evacuation. Hands-on fire extinguisher training can also be included.

TRAINING IS AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST. THERE ARE NO REGULARLY SCHEDULED CLASSES FOR THIS TRAINING COURSE.

Portable Fire Extinguisher Training

This course is a one-time required training for employees performing hot work, providing fire watch coverage, or who may be expected to use a fire extinguisher. Although not  required, other employees are encouraged to complete this training. The training covers types of fire extinguishers and their safe operation. The format is an online module with an option for a hands-on in-person session upon request.

Safety Monitor Training

This training is a one-time required training for employees who served as Safety Monitors within their respective Building Emergency Evacuation Plan (BEEP).  The training consists of PowerPoint slides which cover general evacuation procedures, evacuation maps, and the responsibilities of the Safety Monitor.  This information is to be supplemented by specific BEEP plan information provided by the employee’s unit.
