The narratives explain who needs to take the training, if it is required or recommended, If it is a one-time training or needs to be taken more than once, the format of the training, and provides a link to the training and program webpage.

Chemicals and Hazardous Waste Management
Chemical Waste Management Plan
This course is required for employees who work with chemicals and generate wastes from daily operations and projects. Typical employees who need this training include maintenance, utility, auxiliary, housing and food service and janitorial work groups. This training reviews the University’s environmental policies and regulatory requirements that govern management practices of handling and storage of chemical wastes. The format of the training is an online module but can be instructor-led in specific applications and/or locations. Annual refresher training is required.

Chemical Waste Management Refresher Training
This training is the refresher session required for all employees that handle chemical and hazardous waste, and who work in the non-academic areas covered under the Chemical Waste Management Plan. These groups include the Physical Plant or Campus Maintenance department, Auxiliary and Business Services units, Athletics, and University Police, among others. Contact Environmental Health and Safety if you are unsure whether this refresher training applies to you. The format of the training is an online presentation. Annual refresher training is required.
PLEASE NOTE: For those taking the course annually, you must click on the link below and “Request” the training each year to open a new instance of the course on your transcript. If you go to the training from your transcript, it will not record the new date for the training on your certificate.

Spill Prevention and Response
This course is recommended for employees who are involved with handling, storage and/or clean-up of oils, hazardous materials, or petroleum products. This typically includes utility, maintenance, and housing and food service employees. The format is an online module. Additional information on spill response and the location of spill control materials must be provided by the supervisor.
Spill Prevention and Response - Defensive Measures
This course is recommended for employees that may be the first people to encounter a spill. It provides training on spill prevention and the defensive measures that can be taken to lessen the impact of a spill while awaiting other trained employees to arrive and perform the cleanup. The focus is for non-laboratory personnel, and the training can be used for new employees or as a refresher for existing employees. The format is an online module. Additional information on spill response and the location of spill control materials must be provided by the supervisor.

Universal Waste: Battery Handling and Disposal
This is recommended training for all employees that handle universal waste specifically batteries and covered under the Chemical Waste Management Plan. By the end of the training you will be familiar with the types of batteries that are considered universal waste, what the regulations are for universal waste, and what is required from you as the individual handling the universal waste.
