The primary mission of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) is to ensure a safe and healthy environment for employees, students, and the community; to work with all Penn State University entities to protect against losses; and to ensure that Penn State University operations are in compliance with federal, state and local environmental, health and safety codes and regulations.

The Department of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) is responsible for the development and implementation of environmental and all occupational health and safety programs throughout Penn State's multi-campus system.  EHS has five areas of responsibility: Environmental Protection, Laboratory and Research Safety, Workplace Safety, Radiation Protection and Hazardous Materials.
